Star Refrigeration, the Glasgow-based refrigeration firm, is cautiously reopening its office, publishing its Covid-19 Risk Assessment results.
The move acknowledges the ongoing challenges of remote work while reassuring employees, contractors, and visitors that the company is taking its Covid-19 response measures seriously. A "small number of employees" will be offered the chance to return to the office – presumably those driven mad by working from the kitchen table.
Site-based teams are to continue operating in line with risk assessments developed with customers.
Meetings, Meetings, Meetings
Star Refrigeration highlights a multi-pronged approach, including bi-weekly Executive Board meetings, regular departmental meetings, and a dedicated Covid suggestion scheme. That’s a lot of meetings.
Covid-19 employee guidance and training materials, including online courses, have also been developed.
Remote working remains the preferred option “where possible,” backed by investment in the necessary technology.
Mental Gymnastics
The emphasis on mental health support is noteworthy. A team of trained Mental Health First Aiders and an Employee Assistance Programme are in place. Regular employee surveys aim to identify those struggling with remote working.
Across all offices, social distancing measures are being enforced, with clear signage indicating maximum occupancy and ensuring safe movement.
Hand sanitising stations are readily available, and cleaning procedures have been stepped up, particularly in high-traffic areas. Training is provided to all employees before they return to the office.
Essential Services
Customer communication is also a priority. Star Refrigeration is keen to maintain its “nationwide core service” as a key supplier to essential industries, including food production and distribution.
Contractors and visitors to any Star office or site must complete a Covid-19 Health Questionnaire, and only essential visits are permitted. The company website prominently displays a link to these measures.
One wonders if the novelty of constant hand-sanitising has worn off yet… Still, good to see Star Refrigeration taking things seriously.
