BITZER's Updated CSW Screw Compressor Boosts Efficiency

BITZER has updated its CSW85/95 compact screw compressor with motor version 4, designed to increase efficiency for water-cooled chillers and aid manufacturers in meeting stringent energy standards.

The updated CSW85/95 compact screw compressor from BITZER aims for greater efficiency in water-cooled high-performance liquid chillers, potentially improving the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) by up to 8%. This improvement is achieved with the new motor version 4 and a special oil charge, assisting manufacturers in meeting the latest efficiency requirements.

The CSW motor version 4 combines the well-established BITZER CSW screw compressor with a specifically selected motor and optimised internal gas flow. The product range encompasses nine models with displacements between 410 m³/h and 1,120 m³/h at 50 Hz, and 495 m³/h and 1,351 m³/h at 60 Hz, catering for a broad range of power demands.

Suitable for low-pressure medium and low GWP refrigerants – including R134a, R1234yf, R513A, R450A, R1234zeE, and R515B – the compressor is designed for water-cooled air conditioning and process chiller applications with condensing temperatures up to 46°C. Its mechanical capacity control is adjustable between 100 and 25 per cent, and it supports operation with an external frequency inverter (20-60 Hz).

BITZER projects that the CSW with motor version 4 will improve the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) by up to 8% in water-cooled air conditioning liquid chillers under EU standard EU 2016/2281, when compared to a standard CSW compressor.

This new compressor should assist manufacturers in meeting efficiency standards, though the proof, as ever, will be in the pudding.
