ECO4 Scheme Faces Termination: MCS Voices Concerns
The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) has voiced concerns over the UK government's decision to end the Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) scheme, citing scope challenges for businesses and vulnerable households.
The Autumn Budget, while maintaining the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), sets the ECO4 end date for 31 March 2026, as reported by the MCS. According to the MCS, the termination of ECO4 is expected to negatively impact vulnerable households. Since February 2025, approximately 20,000 certified solar PV and 10,000 certified heat pump installations have been completed under ECO4.
The Government’s decision to end the Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) in today’s Budget will create substantial challenges for businesses, hinder sector growth, and adversely affect some of the most vulnerable households in the country.
Ian Rippin, CEO of MCS, notes that the scheme currently involves nearly 400 MCS certified installers. MCS is pleased that the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) remains unaffected, despite speculation. The original source article contains full details. Further analysis will be published as it emerges.
