Eurovent Issues cPCR Guidance for Refrigeration

Eurovent has issued complementary Product Category Rules (cPCR) guidance to standardise environmental reporting for commercial refrigeration equipment and facilitate the development of Environmental Product Declarations (EPD’s). The guidance supplements EN15804 or EN50693 and is intended for manufacturers, consultants, and environmental professionals.

It addresses product descriptions, performance, service life, lifecycle stages (A1-A3), construction process stage (A4-A5), use stage (B1-B7), and end of life stage C1-C4. It offers a framework for calculating and reporting lifecycle impacts until formal standards are established.

According to Stijn Renneboog, Eurovent deputy secretary general, a harmonised approach to life-cycle assessment and environmental declarations is needed by manufacturers and users of commercial refrigeration equipment. This guidance defines methodological rules for calculating and reporting life-cycle impacts for commercial refrigeration products, as part of Eurovent’s wider programme to harmonise environmental declarations across HVAC product categories.

The complete guidance is available for download from the Eurovent website. The standardisation should enhance transparency. Further study awaits field verification of how the adoption of sustainable refrigeration technologies shall evolve.
