NIBE Sees Strong Q1 Sales Amidst Supply Chain Woes
NIBE Group's Q1 2022 interim report indicates robust sales growth driven by increased demand for sustainable heating solutions, though tempered by material shortages and expenses related to exiting Russian operations.
The Swedish manufacturer NIBE saw sales rise by 28.1% to SEK 8,749 million, up from SEK 6,831 million in the same period last year, according to their Q1 2022 report. Profit after net financial items reached SEK 906 million (SEK 833 million in Q1 2021), translating to earnings per share of SEK 0.33 (SEK 0.31 the previous year). Despite this growth, NIBE absorbed one-off costs of SEK 114 million from winding down its Russian business.
CEO Gerteric Lindquist noted that heightened demand stems from sustainability trends and a desire for energy independence.
Demand was strong in all three business areas in the first quarter of the year, and we see three reasons for this. Our clear sustainability profile is an advantage when more and more consumers are realising that moving away from fossil fuels is an important factor in solving the climate change issue. The home refurbishment trend that started during the pandemic has continued at the same intensive pace as before. Furthermore, the horrifying invasion of Ukraine has led to most European countries and their citizens to realise that we must become entirely independent of Russian oil and gas, which is further driving the need for our products.
Lindquist added a note of cautious optimism:
Even though it’s difficult to make predictions in the current business climate, we are cautiously optimistic about 2022 thanks to our geographic spread, focus on sustainability, stable profitability and good financial preparedness for further offensive acquisitions. While anticipating gradual supply chain improvements, NIBE's performance underscores the increasing market traction of heat pumps and other sustainable HVAC solutions, and their stated strategy includes further geographic expansion and acquisitions.
