REHVA Report Highlights Skills and Tech Needs for EU Heating/Cooling Transition
A new REHVA report analyses the skills and technology needed for Europe's heating and cooling transition.
The REHVA (Federation of European Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning associations) has released its Landscape Analysis Report, stemming from the EU-funded REPOWER REGIONS project. The report, coordinated by Riga Technical University, examines technological trends, regulatory changes, regional factors, and skills gaps pertinent to the heating and cooling transition across Europe.
The analysis draws from desk research and expert interviews, alongside 68 case studies across nine partner regions. The findings indicate a sector in flux, propelled by EU climate and energy policies, with increased deployment of heat pumps, low-temperature district heating, digital solutions and renewable heat sources.
The report identifies key areas for action regarding higher education, vocational training and professional development. It puts forward recommendations for policymakers, education providers and industry stakeholders. Readers can access the full report here.
This assessment reveals the scale of the challenges facing the sector; REHVA has contributed to EU Ecodesign standards. This policy work provides a base, but depends on a workforce skilled enough to deliver real-world change. For heating and cooling professionals, the divide between ambition and available skills points to hurdles ahead. Read the press release here.
